Experience Design Group, Lenovo Unveils Mirage Solo with Daydream

World's First Standalone VR Headset Revolutionizes Virtual Reality Experience

The Experience Design Group at Lenovo has created a groundbreaking innovation in the world of virtual reality (VR). The Mirage Solo with Daydream, the world's first standalone VR headset, promises to unlock the true potential of VR, offering an immersive and entertaining experience without the need for phones or high-powered PCs.

The Mirage Solo was designed with first-time VR users in mind. The design team aimed to make the headset feel like a familiar home appliance, ensuring accessibility and ease of use. The headset's unique properties include cutting-edge WorldSense™ body-tracking technology by Google, a super wide 110-degree field of view (FOV), and access to the entire Daydream library. The Mirage Solo stands out as the first VR headset to offer true freedom of movement, thanks to its 6 degrees of freedom (DoF) tracking. This feature allows users to move their entire body within the virtual scene, just as they would in real life.

The Mirage Solo's design is both elegant and practical. Its clean form factor houses sophisticated technology, while its comfortable, breathable fabric material ensures a snug fit for a wide range of users. The headset's design also took into account weight balance, ergonomics, and breathability, allowing for extended periods of use without discomfort.

The production process for the Mirage Solo required meticulous attention to detail. The headset's subtle texture was achieved through a heat model injection process at over 120°C. This process, along with precise CNC molding and texture processing, resulted in a product that is not only visually appealing but also comfortable to wear.

The Mirage Solo is easy to operate. Users simply turn on the power, adjust the headset for a clear view of the screen, and lock the position to fit their head. The headset's Bluetooth connection to the controller is automatic, simplifying the process further. The intuitive design of the Mirage Solo makes it accessible to users of all ages.

The Mirage Solo project began in April 2016 and was first announced at the Google IO conference in May 2017. The product is set to hit the market in March 2018. The design team faced several challenges during the development process, particularly in unlocking the potential of 6DoF tracking. However, their efforts were rewarded when the Mirage Solo was awarded the Golden A' Digital and Electronic Device Design Award in 2018, a prestigious accolade granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations.
